Three people were arrested in Pekan on June 15 for their alleged involvement in selling and forging medical leave certificates, following a tip-off to the District Health Office on June 10. The suspects—a mechanic, workshop proprietor, and cleaner, all in their 30s—were apprehended at around 3 pm and are thought to have functioned as middlemen distributing the fraudulent documents.
According to Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, the District Health Office learned of the scheme when someone reported purchasing a falsified certificate that had been sourced from a government clinic. The medical practitioner whose credentials appeared on the documents confirmed he had been transferred to another facility in 2023 and that the official seal used was obsolete.
The forged certificates were marketed at prices ranging from RM50 to RM200 each. Investigators believe the operation was structured as a sophisticated network, with the arrested individuals recruiting buyers and handling transactions on behalf of the main supplier.
Authorities are continuing their search for the principal suspect, identified as a female government healthcare worker stationed at a clinic, who is believed to have generated and distributed the fraudulent medical certificates. The three detained individuals are scheduled to appear before the Pekan Magistrate's Court for a remand hearing. Charges are expected under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code.
