Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the government to channel its energy into attracting foreign capital, developing artificial intelligence capabilities, and advancing quantum computing technology, rather than becoming mired in political squabbles. Speaking at a PH Grand Rally in Muar on June 15, Anwar highlighted these technological frontiers as essential to securing Malaysia's standing as a globally competitive economy.
The Prime Minister pointed to recent investments and initiatives undertaken during his visit to Japan as evidence of the government's commitment to these sectors. Bringing AI investments and data centres into Malaysia, coupled with exploration of quantum computing applications, represents the strategic direction needed to benefit future generations. Without such focus, Anwar warned, the nation risks falling behind in key growth areas.
Addressing the crowd alongside PKR Vice-President Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa and Johor PH Chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, Anwar expressed frustration with endless political bickering over divisive issues. He questioned how Malaysia could advance when leaders spend their time arguing over ethnic and religious matters rather than tackling substantive nation-building challenges that require collective effort.
Anwar appealed to all Malaysians—regardless of ethnicity—to set aside partisan divisions and work together to elevate the country's global standing. He noted that international investors already view Malaysia positively, with business opportunities flowing without extensive promotional campaigns. This momentum must be sustained through unified national purpose.
As both PKR President and PH Chairman, Anwar reminded political leaders to focus on genuine problem-solving rather than exploiting communal grievances. He stressed that political success depends on leaders demonstrating responsiveness to citizen concerns and rejecting appeals to divisive sentiments that undermine the nation's development trajectory.
