Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that the nation's economic advancement and development agenda must translate into tangible improvements for citizens across the board, with special focus on communities in rural areas. Speaking at a Hi-Tea gathering with fishing communities, farmers and residents at Pantai Leka Food Court in Muar on June 15, he underlined that prosperity cannot be confined to major infrastructure projects or technological initiatives.
Anwar emphasised that development gains should extend meaningfully to smallholders, rice cultivators, fishermen and agricultural workers. He questioned who would champion the interests of lower-income groups if political leaders remained disconnected from the ground, stressing the need for direct engagement with communities.
While recognising the importance of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation for long-term competitiveness, the Prime Minister reiterated that the MADANI Government prioritises improving the living standards and earnings of rural populations. He highlighted government efforts through relevant agencies to ensure welfare assistance and social safety nets reach intended beneficiaries efficiently.
Anwar urged Cabinet members and political leaders nationwide to venture into communities regularly, listen directly to residents' concerns and address grievances swiftly. He argued that authentic leadership requires the willingness to advocate for marginalised groups and ensure all Malaysians participate meaningfully in the country's modernisation journey, preventing any segment from being left behind.
