The resolution of the Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents' longstanding housing problem signals the government's determination to tackle people's grievances without delay, according to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for permanent housing development at the site, marking a significant milestone for residents who have awaited resolution for over four decades.
Under the permanent housing initiative, each qualifying household will receive two residential units at no cost. Ramanan, who represents Sungai Buloh, described the development as a direct intervention to uplift the urban poor community and improve their living standards. The minister emphasised that the Prime Minister's decision underscores the administration's pledge to ensure timely delivery of justice to the people.
The government has also allocated an additional RM1 million to Kuala Lumpur City Hall for area maintenance spanning three years, a commitment Ramanan welcomed. Although modest in scale, he stressed that the project's significance lies in its profound impact on residents' lives following their extended wait for proper housing.
The dispute had lingered since the 1980s until residents' representatives initiated legal action in 2018, ultimately resulting in a resolution that balances community welfare with environmental preservation. The agreement safeguards Taman Rimba Kiara from development, addressing earlier proposals that had sparked conservation concerns.
