Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Johor residents to elect leaders demonstrating integrity, wisdom, and humility once given power, stressing the importance of protecting the interests of ordinary citizens and marginalised communities.
Addressing a Pakatan Harapan rally in Muar on June 15, Anwar emphasised that leadership selection fundamentally shapes a state's trajectory. He warned that certain political groups employ divisive rhetoric to win support but subsequently neglect their obligations to constituents. "Do not exploit sentiments of hatred toward others," he urged, asking voters to consider the broader implications for the nation, schools, hospitals, and future generations.
Anwar stressed that elected officials must avoid arrogance following electoral victories and instead concentrate on tackling public grievances, particularly those affecting disadvantaged populations. He underscored that federal-state policy coordination is indispensable for enabling grassroots communities to benefit fully from major initiatives, citing the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and Port of Tanjung Pelepas expansion as examples of federal-led projects.
While acknowledging the state government's contributions, Anwar pointed out that the Federal Government has driven implementation of these significant undertakings. He expressed hope that a Pakatan Harapan victory in the July 11 state election would facilitate policy transformation and ensure state representatives prioritise the welfare of ordinary residents.
Anwar also encouraged Johor voters, including diaspora members, to return home and participate in the upcoming election. He highlighted that every ballot matters in advancing policy reforms and ensuring equitable distribution of economic benefits across the population.
